About

The anchorage at King Edward Cove, Grytviken — the historic whaling station on South Georgia, accessible to expedition yachts sailing the sub-Antarctic. Grytviken is the burial site of Ernest Shackleton and the destination of his legendary rescue crossing from Elephant Island. The Government of South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands (GSGSSI) requires advance permits for all visiting vessels. Wildlife is extraordinary: king penguins, fur seals, elephant seals, and wandering albatross breed in vast numbers. One of the most extraordinary destinations accessible by yacht on Earth.
